Carrie Underwood has been in the music industry long enough to know that criticism comes with the territory. And she’s clearly not afraid to face it head-on.

During the March 2 episode of American Idol, the 42-year-old superstar found herself on the receiving end of boos from the live audience after delivering tough feedback to a contestant.

The moment unfolded during the “Hollywood Week: Music City Takeover” round in Nashville, when contestant Mor performed an original song.

Before offering her critique, Carrie seemed to sense what was coming from the crowd.

“You guys are gonna boo me. You’re gonna boo me,” Carrie told the audience.

“It’s coming. Bring it on. I love it! Your boos are feeding me.”

She then addressed the contestant directly, explaining why she felt the performance missed an opportunity.

“In a room like this, for you to bring an original song with that incredible band sitting behind you, twiddling their thumbs, I feel like it was a missed opportunity.”

The audience immediately responded with loud boos, but Carrie didn’t stand alone.

Fellow judge Luke Bryan quickly stepped in to defend her.

“She only won this. She knows. You’re not included in the discussions,” he told the crowd.

Carrie, clearly amused by the situation, turned the moment into playful banter.

“Why don’t they boo you?” she asked.

Luke jokingly replied, “I don’t know, I’m trying to get booed.”

Carrie then encouraged the crowd to share the energy.

“You’re not going to boo him?”

Moments later, the audience happily obliged, directing boos toward Luke as well.

The lighthearted exchange helped diffuse the tension in the room, but the moment continued to circulate online after the episode aired.

Carrie later addressed the situation herself on social media with a tongue-in-cheek response.

“Boo me. I don’t care. 😂😜🤪 @AmericanIdol,” she wrote.

For longtime viewers, the moment reflects something fans have come to expect from Carrie: honest critiques delivered without apology.

As one of the most successful artists to emerge from American Idol, she understands exactly how the competition works, and what contestants need to stand out.
