Dove Cameron is sharing the full story behind her engagement — and it’s as intimate and heartfelt as fans hoped.

The 30-year-old actress and singer appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote her new movie 56 Days, where she opened up about how her fiancé, Måneskin frontman Damiano David, proposed back in October. The couple only confirmed the engagement publicly this month, making the story feel even more special.

Dove admitted she knew a proposal was coming at some point. Damiano had openly talked about picking out a ring and waiting for it to be finished — but she had no idea when the moment would arrive.

As it turns out, it came at the least glamorous time imaginable.

“It was a day I would never have projected,” Dove said. “We were packing, and I’m the worst version of myself when I’m packing… I’m in a big t-shirt, no makeup, hair still kind of wet from the shower, and I’m running around like a creature in our house.”

She recalled catching a familiar look on Damiano’s face.

“He does that thing, I feel like every girl knows this with their partner. I’m in the hallway and he does that thing, that boyfriend face of, ‘Oh, I love this little silly creature that is in my life.’”

That’s when panic set in.

“And I was like no, no, no, no, no. I was so prepared until literally truly right now,” she continued. “I ran into the other room panicking, like do I do my nails? What do I do? I gotta be ready.”

The proposal itself happened right there in their home.

“And he goes, ‘Babe…’ It was in our house. I forgot how to function for a minute and my brain broke in half.”

Dove then shared Damiano’s words — which instantly made the moment unforgettable.

“Then I came out into the living room and he had something in his hand, and he said, ‘I know that some girls want rose petals. I know that you were maybe expecting something big, but our life is so big and it’s full of so many public highs that there’s no romance in that for us anymore,’” she recalled.

“‘I wanted to do this here in our home because I want dishes, I want laundry, I want making food together. I want you in your big t-shirt and this is the life that I choose, and I hope you choose the same. Will you marry me?’”

“I cried so much,” Dove said. “From the moment I saw him standing, I was sobbing. It was water works.”

She confirmed the proposal took place in October and explained why they waited to announce it publicly.

“We only announced it in January because basically when he proposed, we got on a flight like two hours later and it was a flight to Australia,” she said.

“When we got there, we showered and went out to lunch with our friends, and we got, there was a paparazzi who got us the first day out in our rings.”

“We weren’t planning on announcing it,” she added. “But then the whole world knew.”

Dove also revealed another major milestone: her debut album is officially on the way.

“I have been working on an album for a very, very long time,” she shared. “I recently, as in last week, finally got the green light from my label that they say this year is the year to release, finally, my debut album.”

Between a new film, new music, and a fiancé who proposed in a big t-shirt moment, Dove Cameron’s next chapter is officially underway — and it’s beautifully, authentically hers.
