Emma Watson has been hit with a driving ban after reportedly being caught speeding in the UK. The Harry Potter star, 35, is now prohibited from driving for six months following an incident last year in Oxford.

According to a new report, Watson was clocked at 38mph in a 30mph zone on July 31, 2024. At the time, she already had nine penalty points on her license, which triggered the ban once this latest infraction was added. The case was heard at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (July 16).

Though Watson didn’t attend the hearing in person, her legal representative confirmed to the BBC that “she is in a position to pay the fine.” The fine totaled £1,160 (around $1,396).

While the news has taken fans by surprise, Watson has kept a low profile amid the development. She hasn’t made any public comment about the penalty so far.

Currently, the actress is enrolled in a master’s program in creative writing at the University of Oxford.

Watson, best known for playing Hermione Granger, has mostly stepped back from Hollywood in recent years. In a rare Instagram post back in 2023, she shared that she took a step away from the spotlight to focus on personal growth and education, calling it a time of “learning to sit with discomfort.”
