Pop sensation Gracie Abrams is opening up about the realization that led to her making a lifestyle change. Appearing on the popular podcast Therapuss hosted by social media personality Jake Shane, the 26-year-old Grammy-nominated singer candidly discussed her decision to step away from smoking weed, explaining how her desire to remain present and agile in her personal and professional life sparked the choice.

When Shane asked point-blank if she currently smokes, Abrams offered a thoughtful, honest breakdown of her shifting relationship with the habit:

“I don’t right now very much at all. To be completely honest. I had definitely had a period, especially — during Covid, there was a stretch where, — but I don’t think ultimately, I struggle because I’m like, ‘sometimes it’s so the best thing.’ And then I feel like I want to be available to the people in My life, but also opportunity and spontaneity in a way that — weed doesn’t allow it will keep me as if I’m handcuffed to the couch. And I think I prefer, the freedom of feeling mobile and able more than I prefer the handcuffed to my chair feeling these days.”

Her host chimed in with a similar story, sharing that his own choice to quit was inspired by a past guest on the show, singer-songwriter Role Model (Tucker Pillsbury):

“I was the biggest stoner. And then Tucker came on the show and was like, ‘I stopped smoking, I’m done.’ And I was like, — ‘your career is kind of going, wow, maybe I should check this out.’”

For Abrams—who has spent the past two years riding a wave of critical acclaim, stadium tours, and chart success—trading the “couch lock” for creative mobility has proven to be a game-changer. Her open reflection serves as a refreshing reminder that staying clear-headed and fully present is often the ultimate creative superpower.
