Gracie Abrams has dropped her new album — with a title that’s impossible to ignore.

The singer-songwriter released her third studio album, Daughter From Hell, on Friday (July 17), giving fans a deeply personal collection of songs that explores the emotional growing pains, complicated relationships and self-reflection that have become hallmarks of her songwriting. Arriving at midnight, the record was immediately met with enthusiastic reactions online as listeners raced to pick their favorite tracks and unpack the stories hidden within the lyrics.

Already, one song is generating particularly strong buzz.

“Good Reason,” the album’s sixth track, has quickly emerged as an early fan favorite. Written and produced by Abrams alongside longtime collaborator Aaron Dessner, the song captures one of the most uncomfortable emotional realities a person can face: realizing you’re the one who hurt someone who loved you more deeply than you loved them.

Instead of assigning blame elsewhere, Abrams turns the spotlight inward.

In the chorus, she sings:

“That’s when I knew suddenly I would be leaving / And neither of us saw it comin’ / If only I had a good reason / That’s when I knew, honestly, you would start bleeding / Just to cover it up for my feelings / If only I had a good reason.”

The lyrics are classic Abrams—quietly devastating without relying on melodrama. Rather than presenting herself as either hero or villain, she examines emotional fallout with remarkable honesty, allowing listeners to sit with the discomfort instead of rushing toward easy answers.

Since emerging as one of pop’s most compelling singer-songwriters, Abrams has built a devoted following by writing songs that often read like pages torn from a personal journal. Her work doesn’t chase dramatic twists so much as it lingers in the gray areas of relationships, regret, longing and growing up.

Daughter From Hell appears to continue that tradition while pushing her songwriting into even more vulnerable territory.

According to the album’s official description, it “portrays a formative chapter that feels both deeply personal and widely universal. Grounded in emotional honesty and meticulous storytelling, the album finds Gracie embracing the complexity of growing up.”

The release of Daughter From Hell arrives during one of the busiest periods of Abrams’ career.

Later this year, she’ll launch The Look at My Life Tour, a massive arena run announced earlier this spring. Beginning in December, the tour will take her across North America before continuing through Europe and the United Kingdom, marking her biggest live undertaking to date.
