Gwyneth Paltrow is putting her signature deadpan humor to good use—this time by poking fun at the viral Coldplay “kiss cam” drama that unexpectedly involved a tech CEO and a whole lot of internet sleuthing.
It all started when Andy Byron, then-CEO of data company Astronomer, was caught on camera at a Coldplay concert looking very cozy with a woman who wasn’t his wife. The video quickly made the rounds online, sparking speculation, memes, and some serious PR fallout for Astronomer.
Enter Gwyneth.
The Oscar winner and founder of Goop—who also happens to be Coldplay frontman Chris Martin’s ex-wife—decided to lean into the absurdity. In a video shared by Astronomer on X (formerly Twitter), she declared herself their “temporary spokesperson.”
“I’ve been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300-plus employees at Astronomer. Astronomer has gotten a lot of questions over the last few days and they wanted me to answer the most common ones,” she says in the video, posted Friday (July 25).
Gwyneth keeps the tone light, explaining what Astronomer actually does—data orchestration, for those wondering—and shuts down any attempts to dive deeper into the scandal. When the video hints at asking how the company’s social media team is holding up under the viral pressure, she redirects and moves on to promoting their upcoming conference.
It’s classic Gwyneth—poised, slightly cheeky, and entirely in control of the narrative. While the kiss cam moment might’ve been awkward for everyone involved, Gwyneth’s cameo helped defuse some of the tension with a healthy dose of humor and a very meta PR play.
