Jack Black has gone viral—again—and this time, he’s making Billboard history with a song from the Minecraft movie.
In the live-action adaptation of the iconic video game, Jack plays Steve, a retired doorknob salesman who’s been living in the Overworld. At one point, he breaks into a short but catchy tune for his business: Steve’s Lava Chicken. And the track has taken off.
Clocking in at just 34 seconds, “Steve’s Lava Chicken” is now the shortest song ever to land on the Billboard Hot 100. It debuted at No. 77 on the chart dated May 3, 2025.
According to Billboard, the song “surged 62% to 7 million official U.S. streams April 18-24, according to data tracker Luminate.”
A Minecraft Movie is also doing numbers at the box office, pulling in $816.6 million worldwide and nearing the $1 billion mark.
Jack Black is no stranger to meme-worthy music moments. His ballad “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie climbed to No. 56 on the Hot 100 last year. Now with “Lava Chicken,” he’s proven once again that even 34 seconds of Jack Black can go a very long way.
