Over two decades after pioneering the modern celebrity reality television craze with Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, Jessica Simpson is officially inviting cameras back into her world. Netflix announced via Tudum that the 46-year-old pop star, fashion mogul, and best-selling author will star in an upcoming feature-length documentary series exploring her multi-decade career, personal evolution, and recent life changes.

Directed by BAFTA nominee Joe Pearlman—who previously helmed critically acclaimed music documentaries including Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now—the untitled project promises an unfiltered look behind the scenes of Simpson’s empire. Since her early days under the glare of early-2000s tabloid culture, Simpson has built a multi-billion-dollar licensing brand, sold over 20 million records globally, and penned the record-breaking 2020 memoir Open Book.

The documentary arrives during a transformative chapter for the entertainer. Following her split from husband Eric Johnson after nearly 11 years of marriage, Simpson made a triumphant return to music after a 15-year recording hiatus, releasing her critically acclaimed Nashville Canyon EPs in 2025.

During recent live performances, Simpson has spoken candidly with audiences about the intense media pressure she faced surrounding her physical appearance early in her career, setting the stage for a documentary that promises to confront industry standards with vulnerability, humor, and ultimate strength. Scheduled for release on Netflix in 2027, the project stands as an empowering celebration of a woman who reclaimed her narrative and built an enduring legacy entirely on her own terms.
