Six years after wrapping their beloved onscreen partnership on Jane the Virgin, Gina Rodriguez and Justin Baldoni are stepping back into the ring together—this time behind the camera. Production banner Wayfarer Studios has officially signed on to produce House of Guerrero, a feature-length boxing drama that marks Rodriguez’s theatrical directorial debut.
Baldoni will produce the project alongside Wayfarer partner Andrew Calof, joined by Scott Budnick and Ameet Shukla of 1Community, as well as Rodriguez and Molly Breeskin through Rodriguez’s I Can And I Will Productions. Based on an original concept co-written by Rodriguez and screenwriter Bernardo Cubría, the film centers on a talented young fighter whose promising career hits an abrupt wall, only to be offered one final, high-stakes chance to step back inside the ropes and fight for his legacy.
For Baldoni, backing Rodriguez’s debut feature represents a natural extension of their long-standing creative bond forged over five seasons on Jane the Virgin.

She’s a rare talent with an incredible gift for telling stories that reach people on a deeply human level. Boxing is in her blood, and so is a deep passion to center Latino characters and experiences that rarely get to be at the heart of their own films.”
For Rodriguez, who grew up around the sport, directing House of Guerrero fulfills a personal vision she has carried throughout her career:

The collaboration also follows recent public support from Rodriguez and former co-star Brett Dier toward Baldoni during his high-profile legal battles surrounding It Ends With Us. With elite fight choreographers Clayton J. Barber (Creed III) and Eric Brown (John Wick) onboard, House of Guerrero is positioning itself as a fierce, deeply human addition to the sports drama canon.
