Karlie Kloss is once again addressing one of the questions she’s been asked for years: how she navigates being part of a family whose political views differ dramatically from her own.
The supermodel, entrepreneur, and founder of Kode With Klossy spoke candidly about the subject during a new interview with Bloomberg Originals, reaffirming her political beliefs while also explaining why she believes healthy conversations across ideological divides are still possible.
Kloss, 33, has been married to investor Joshua Kushner since 2018. Joshua’s older brother, Jared Kushner, is married to Ivanka Trump, making the model part of one of America’s most high-profile extended families. That connection has frequently led to questions about her own political views, particularly given her long history of publicly supporting Democratic candidates and progressive causes.
Despite the public assumptions that often accompany those family ties, Kloss made one point crystal clear.
“I have never met President Trump,” Karlie stated.
Her answer came after she was asked whether she had ever spoken with Donald Trump about politics.
It’s a revelation that may surprise some observers, considering how often Kloss’ name is mentioned alongside members of the Trump-Kushner family in media coverage. Even so, she emphasized that her own political identity has remained consistent throughout her adult life.
Rather than focusing on public perception, Kloss said she remains grounded in the values that have shaped her decisions for years.
“Well, I know who I am,” Karlie explained. “I know the values that guide my life and the issues that I care about. So, you know, I haven’t lost sight of who I am, but also, it’s my husband’s family.”
Her comments reflect an approach she’s maintained throughout her marriage—separating her personal convictions from those of her extended family while avoiding public disputes over political differences.
The conversation also turned to what family gatherings are actually like.
Given the differing political beliefs represented around the table, many people have wondered whether those occasions become tense or divisive.
Kloss suggested her upbringing prepared her well for those situations.
“Well, we’re sitting here in St. Louis, which is a blue dot in a red state. Since as long as I can remember, I’ve always been exposed to a lot of different political points of view, and I think that trained me for my life.”
Growing up in Missouri exposed Kloss to a wide range of perspectives long before she entered public life, and she says those experiences continue to influence how she approaches conversations today.
Rather than avoiding people who think differently, she believes meaningful dialogue remains essential.
“You know, I’m a Democrat,” she added. “I think it’s possible to have relationships with people who you politically don’t align with. And I think this country has always been a place for dialogue. We have to be able to talk to each other.”
The comments offer one of Kloss’ most direct discussions yet about balancing family relationships with personal beliefs.
Although her marriage has occasionally placed her at the centre of political conversations, she has consistently maintained that her views are her own and that she has never allowed public assumptions to define her identity.
Beyond politics, Kloss has built a career that extends far beyond the runway.
After becoming one of fashion’s most recognizable faces, she shifted much of her attention toward entrepreneurship, philanthropy and education through initiatives like Kode With Klossy, which encourages young women to pursue opportunities in technology and computer science.
That work has become a defining part of her public image, alongside her advocacy for issues including education, voting rights and women’s empowerment.
Her latest interview serves as another reminder that public figures often find themselves answering questions about family members just as frequently as questions about their own careers.
