Megan Thee Stallion’s highly anticipated Broadway run took an unexpected turn Tuesday night (March 31), when the performance of Moulin Rouge! The Musical was abruptly halted after the opening scenes.
The Grammy-winning artist, who recently made her Broadway debut in the role of Harold Zidler, reportedly began feeling unwell during the show and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Concern first spread online when her hairstylist, Kellon Deryck, posted a message on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Everyone say a prayer for Megan, we are all at the hospital 🙏”
Shortly after, a representative for the performer confirmed the situation in a statement.
“During Tuesday night’s production, Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated,” the rep tells Just Jared. “We will share additional updates as more information becomes available.”
Audience members inside the theater described a sudden pause in the performance, with minimal explanation initially provided. Among them was The Breakfast Club producer Loren Lorosa, who shared her firsthand account on social media.
“They just stopped moulin rouge mid show apologized to the audience and said ..’stay inside and seated’ I asked security if we’re safe .. they told us ‘for now, we’ll update you if anything changes,’” Loren wrote on Twitter/X.
According to those in attendance, Megan had been delivering a strong performance prior to the interruption, making the abrupt halt all the more jarring.
The incident comes just days after Megan officially stepped into the role, marking a major milestone in her career. Her casting as Zidler also made history, as she became the first female-identifying performer to take on the role in any production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical worldwide.
The transition from global music icon to Broadway performer had been widely celebrated, with early reactions praising her stage presence and charisma.
While details about her condition remain limited, the production team has yet to confirm how upcoming performances may be affected.
For now, the focus remains on her health and recovery, with fans and industry peers alike expressing support as they await further updates.
