Rebel Wilson is in the headlines again — and this time, it’s not for her own lawsuit, but for one aimed directly at her.
The 45-year-old actress, writer, and producer has been accused of defamation by Charlotte MacInnes, her co-star in The Deb. The legal drama stems from earlier allegations Rebel made about misconduct on the set of the musical, which she claimed involved one of the film’s producers.
According to legal documents obtained by Entertainment Weekly, Charlotte — who played the lead in the project — has filed against Rebel, alleging that she damaged her reputation by publicly naming her in connection with those allegations.
In Rebel’s earlier claims, she suggested Charlotte had been the victim of misconduct. But when Charlotte denied that any misconduct took place, Rebel allegedly accused her of “changing her story” in order to secure a role in another of the producer’s projects.
The new filing asserts that these public statements were false and harmed Charlotte’s standing in the industry. She is now demanding that Rebel release a correction or issue an apology within 28 days. If not, Charlotte’s legal team intends to move forward with the defamation suit.
Rebel’s original claims against The Deb’s producers had already caused a stir in the press, with heated exchanges between her and various parties connected to the film. Now, the spotlight is shifting to whether her public statements about Charlotte crossed a legal line.
Neither Rebel nor Charlotte has publicly commented on the lawsuit outside of the official filings. However, with a legal clock ticking on the 28-day window, the next move could determine whether this dispute is resolved quickly or turns into a prolonged court battle.
For now, the situation adds another chapter to The Deb’s increasingly turbulent off-screen history — one that may end up being more dramatic than the plot of the production itself.
