Rihanna is celebrating a milestone few artists ever reach—two full decades in music.
On Friday (August 29), the 37-year-old superstar marked the 20th anniversary of her debut album Music of the Sun with a heartfelt Instagram post. Released in 2005, the album launched her career, introducing the world to her distinctive sound and beginning her path to global superstardom.
In her tribute, Rihanna reflected on the journey that began when she was just a teenager leaving Barbados to chase a dream.
“20 years ago, i left my country, my culture, my food, and family to embark on a journey that started with the release of my very first body of music,” she wrote. “So many of you were a part of my life and career since the very beginning, and some of you have joined the adventure along the way. I’m forever grateful to all of you. Each of you played a very crucial role in where this journey has taken me thus far!”
The “Work” singer went on to express her gratitude for the unwavering support she’s received.
“I just wanted to take this moment to say thank you! Thank you for the greatest first 20 years ever! 20 years of the most loyal, die-hard fans that don’t play about me whatsoever, 20 years of hard work and hardworking teams around me, 20 years of lessons, 20 years of unforgettable experiences and accomplishments, 20 years of my family being my number one support system, and to all the people who said yes to me and gave me a chance before it was ‘cool’ to,” Rihanna continued.
She directed her thanks not only to fans but also to the producers, DJs, designers, and industry figures who supported her early on.
“20 years worth of thanks to you!! I thank God, He’s been very generous to me and the Glory belongs to Him,” she added, closing with an anchor emoji—a nod to her loyal Navy fanbase.
As she celebrates this milestone, many are left wondering if new music could be on the horizon. But whether or not she returns to the studio soon, Rihanna’s words were a reminder of just how much she’s accomplished—and how grateful she remains for the journey.
