Shia LaBeouf is facing another legal challenge after prosecutors in Louisiana formally filed charges connected to an alleged altercation that took place during Mardi Gras celebrations earlier this year.

According to reports, the 39-year-old actor has been charged with three misdemeanor counts of simple battery by the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office. The charges were officially filed on Thursday (May 21) and stem from a reported confrontation involving two men outside a bar in New Orleans during Mardi Gras festivities in February.

The latest development adds another chapter to an ongoing legal situation that has unfolded over the last several months.

Authorities allege the incident began outside a New Orleans establishment during one of the city’s busiest weekends of the year, with Mardi Gras bringing large crowds and heightened activity throughout the area.

One of the individuals involved in the reported altercation later claimed that Shia used homophobic slurs during the confrontation.

According to NOLA.com, police stated in a report that Shia was “reportedly causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive.”

Video captured at the scene later circulated online and reportedly showed the actor removing his shirt before approaching the individuals involved. Footage also allegedly captured him shouting, “Let’s fight, let’s fight.”

The actor was subsequently arrested following the incident.

Following his initial arrest, Shia later appeared before a judge, where his bail was reportedly set at $100,000. In addition to the financial conditions attached to his release, the court also ordered him to participate in substance abuse treatment and undergo drug testing.

Shia LaBeouf was previously ordered into substance abuse treatment and drug testing following his arrest.

The legal situation did not end there.

Just over a week after his first arrest, authorities reportedly issued another warrant tied to an additional misdemeanor charge connected to the original incident. Shia was later arrested again in New Orleans in relation to that warrant.

The developments mark another highly public chapter in the actor’s life, which over the years has frequently moved between critical acclaim for his work and intense public scrutiny surrounding personal matters.

LaBeouf first emerged as a child actor before becoming widely recognized through projects including Even Stevens and later transitioning into major film roles. Over time, he earned praise for performances in films such as Honey Boy, Fury, and Pieces of a Woman, with many critics pointing to his work as emotionally raw and deeply personal.

However, much of the conversation surrounding the actor in recent years has centered around legal matters and allegations involving his personal life.

The latest legal developments come months after Shia’s ex, FKA twigs, filed another lawsuit against the actor in late March related to their previous sexual battery settlement.

That ongoing legal matter has continued to attract significant public attention, with developments surrounding the case remaining closely watched.

As of now, the newly filed misdemeanor charges connected to the New Orleans incident represent allegations, and legal proceedings are expected to continue as the case moves through the court system.
