Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are making it official!
The 34-year-old pop superstar and the 34-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end announced their engagement with a joint Instagram post that had Swifties and football fans losing it in the comments.
Taylor shared a carousel of photos from the special moment, captioning it: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨.” The series included two snapshots from the engagement and a close-up of her jaw-dropping new ring. The diamond, confirmed by Newsweek, is an Old Mine Brilliant Cut designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry.
The timing of the announcement was pure Taylor. She revealed the news on the 13th hour of the day on August 26 — exactly 13 days after the couple first went public with their romance on Travis’s New Heights podcast. Swift fans know that 13 has always been Taylor’s lucky number, making the reveal extra meaningful.
Fans are also swooning over the details of how it all went down — and for that, we can thank Travis’s dad, Ed Kelce, who spilled the tea in multiple interviews.
According to Ed, the proposal actually happened back on August 10 in a garden at their Missouri residence in Lee’s Summit. “Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” Ed shared. “He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event. And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”
Instead of a public spectacle, Travis went with something intimate and romantic. He recruited a few helpers to transform the backyard with fresh floral arrangements. “As they walked out, she could see, suddenly there’s a lot more flowers out there. That was all decorated by some people that would help Travis out. They got it all ready. They saw them coming and hid in the bushes!” Ed said.
The big moment was beautifully low-key. “He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘let’s go out and have a glass of wine,’ … they got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Ed revealed.
Immediately after, the couple FaceTimed both families to share the news. “They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great. I got a FaceTime call from them, and as soon as I saw the FaceTime, I saw it was Travis, and then I saw Taylor there with him, I knew what they were going to say, and they, you know, let us know,” Ed said.
As for when and where the wedding will be, Ed kept quiet: “As far as when they’re gonna do this, and where…I’m going to go mute on that!”
One detail he did confirm? Kids are absolutely in the plan. “Yea, most definitely, they both do,” Ed shared when asked if the couple wanted to start a family. He also revealed that Taylor’s dad, Scott Swift, had been gently nudging Travis toward the proposal too.
The engagement comes after months of growing speculation. Fans had already been convinced the couple was heading toward marriage after Taylor opened up about her relationship in one of her most candid interviews yet on New Heights.
Now, the two are officially on their way to becoming one of the biggest power couples in pop culture. A global superstar and a Super Bowl champ? It doesn’t get more headline-making than that.
Congratulations to Taylor and Travis — and yes, we’ll be waiting (impatiently) for every wedding update.
