Taylor Swift just proved—again—that everything she touches turns to gold.
The 35-year-old superstar’s latest project, The Life of a Showgirl, danced its way straight to No. 1 at the box office this weekend, earning a massive $46 million worldwide—$33 million domestically and another $13 million internationally, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
What makes this number even more impressive? The film was only available for a limited weekend release.
Part documentary, part music experience, The Life of a Showgirl brings together a mix of music videos, behind-the-scenes moments, and lyric visuals for tracks off her new album. The crown jewel? Her self-directed video for “The Fate of Ophelia,” which debuted as part of The Official Release Party of a Showgirl event before dropping on YouTube Sunday night (October 5).
Fans quickly noticed familiar faces throughout the film—especially the dancers. They’re the same powerhouse performers from her Eras Tour, including Jan Ravnik, who’s now competing as a pro on Dancing With the Stars. The styling and visuals across the film nod to the album’s intricate cover art, merging classic glamour with Swift’s unmistakable storytelling flair.
Speaking to Variety, Taylor explained the creative vision behind the video:
“The idea I came up with for this music video was sort of a journey throughout all these different ways in which over time periods, historically, you could be a showgirl. Like, how you would be in the public eye back during the 1800s, when you’d sit for a Pre-Raphaelite painting. Or you could be a showgirl by being a cabaret burlesque club performer. You could be a theatrical actor putting on a performance. You could a Vegas showgirl. You could be one of the girls in the Busby Berkeley screen-siren era of the ‘30s and ‘40s. You could be a pop singer on the Eras Tour.”
She also shared her excitement about reuniting with her tour family:
“We got everybody back together from the Eras Tour. All of the performers that you saw on that stage are back in this music video, as well as so many of the people who worked behind the scenes to create the Eras Tour.”
The film follows in the footsteps of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which grossed $93.2 million domestically and an incredible $261.6 million globally just two years ago. With this latest hit, Swift continues to redefine what it means to be a pop icon—fusing art, history, and heart into something uniquely her own.
