Teyana Taylor isn’t rushing to define her relationship with Aaron Pierre — and she’s perfectly fine keeping it that way.
The 34-year-old singer, actress, and all-around creative force was first linked to the 31-year-old actor earlier this year. Since then, the two have made a handful of public appearances and even worked together, but Teyana is in no hurry to put a label on things.
“I just go with the flow, and I’m trying things a little differently,” she told InStyle, explaining that she’s “just protecting my peace and privacy.” For her, keeping certain parts of her personal life guarded is a conscious choice, especially given her years navigating the spotlight.
Fans got a glimpse of the duo’s chemistry when Aaron appeared in her “Bed of Roses” music video. On top of that, she shared an Instagram slideshow for his birthday back in June — something the internet quickly labeled as a “hard launch.” Teyana doesn’t see it that way. She stated that it “doesn’t count,” clarifying that it was more about celebrating someone special than making an official announcement.
When it came to casting Aaron in her music video, the decision was as much about trust as it was about talent. “It’s always easier to go to work when it’s with people that you love, cherish, and appreciate, and when it’s with people that don’t play about you,” she explained. “I’ve had a lot of ups and downs within this music industry, like my love-hate relationship with music, different things like that.”
Her latest album, Escape Room, carries a deeply personal message. “Escape Room is for people to escape anything,” she said, hinting at how her creative process has become a refuge for herself and hopefully for her listeners as well.
For now, Teyana is savoring her current chapter — one where she’s free to create, collaborate with people who have her back, and protect her peace without worrying about labels.
