The Script’s Mark Sheehan has sadly died. The lead guitarist and founding member of the Irish rock band passed away at the age of 46.
The band confirmed the sad news in a statement that they released to social media. The statement read:
“Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness.
The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.”
The Script, also made up of lead singer Danny O’Donoghue and drummer Glen Power, is beloved for hit tracks like “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” and “Breakeven.”
Mark was not part of the band’s U.S. tour last year. The band said at the time that his absence was due to family, with Danny saying then:
“It’s his story to tell, but yeah, I guess if I could paraphrase, his children needed a father and his wife needed a husband.”
Our thoughts are with his family, bandmates, and loved ones during this difficult time.
