Nina Dobrev and Zac Efron have been sparking serious buzz after being spotted hanging out together—but an insider says romance isn’t on the table.
The rumors kicked off when photos surfaced of the High School Musical alum and The Vampire Diaries star looking cozy during a recent getaway. Fans quickly began speculating about a possible new Hollywood couple.
Not so fast, says a source speaking to Us Weekly. According to the insider, Nina and Zac “have been good friends for over a decade.”
“Their friends always joke that they should date, but that is not what is going on. They have been there for each other through many phases of life and have always had each other’s back,” the source explained.
The chatter comes shortly after Nina’s split from fiancé Shaun White. Newly single, she’s been leaning on her inner circle and recently joined pals for a yacht vacation off Italy’s coast. Zac was among the group, which also included Miles Teller and his wife Keleigh, plus Chace Crawford and girlfriend Kelsey Merritt.
The same insider noted Nina has “felt a lot of love and support” from “her family and friends recently,” helping her navigate the breakup. “Everyone has been lifting her spirits and she has been in a better place after taking some time away following her split from Shaun,” they added.
So while fans might root for a Nina-Zac romance, it’s simply a long friendship catching headlines – at least for now.
