Kristen Stewart knows the Twilight legacy isn’t going anywhere — and she’s not running from it. In fact, she might be ready to reimagine it.
The 35-year-old actress and director sparked fresh excitement among fans this week when she openly discussed the possibility of directing a Twilight remake, offering a thoughtful and surprisingly enthusiastic response while attending industry events tied to the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Kristen was spotted on Monday (January 5) in New York City wearing a sheer dress layered with a white top as she exited her hotel en route to the NBC studios for an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. The visit was part of her press tour for The Chronology of Water, a deeply personal project that continues to mark her evolution behind the camera.
The day prior, Stewart attended Variety’s Creative Impact Awards and 10 Directors to Watch brunch at Parker Palm Springs, where she was asked directly about whether she’d ever want to helm a remake of Twilight — the franchise that launched her into global superstardom.
Her answer? Open, reflective, and unexpectedly committed.
“I would love — look. I love what Catherine [Hardwicke] did, I love what Chris [Weitz] did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies,” Kristen told ET’s Denny Directo.
She went on to praise the originality and rawness of the original films, adding:
“They were so themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly, and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet, like before they blew up,” she continued about the movies.
For Stewart, the idea of revisiting Twilight isn’t about correcting the past — it’s about recontextualizing it with experience, perspective, and creative freedom.
“Imagine if we had a huge budget and a bunch of love and support. I don’t know — I would love to readapt. Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it! I’m committed!”
That final declaration immediately sent fans into a frenzy, reigniting conversations around the franchise’s future — particularly as Netflix continues development on an animated Twilight series. Stewart’s openness adds fuel to the idea that the saga still has room to evolve, especially through the lens of someone who lived it from the inside.
Since stepping away from the franchise, Kristen has built a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most daring and unconventional artists, choosing roles — and now directing opportunities — that prioritize substance over spectacle. Her interest in revisiting Twilight feels less nostalgic and more intentional: a reclamation of a cultural moment through maturity and authorship.
Whether a remake ever materializes remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: Kristen Stewart isn’t afraid to revisit her roots — especially if it means doing so on her own creative terms.
