Have Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello really called it quits?
Last week, reports came out that Shawmila “are taking some time apart.”
According to InTouch, the couple have decided to take a break after spending months quarantining together amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“The [original plan] was that Camila would go back to Los Angeles with him,” a source told the outlet. “But they decided they needed to take a break from each other.”
“Despite their busy careers, they’ve spent much of the past year together. They were in love and were best friends — they still are,” the source continued. “The past year was a whirlwind for them and they supported each other so much. Nothing really went bad between them, they just realized they need some time apart.”
The source says the two didn’t make the decision lightly, but had to admit that it was for the best – Shawn and Camila “are both working on new albums” and “need a little space to grow individually.” But even though they’re on a break, “they still talk and love each other,” the source assures.
Shawmila stans have been shipping the two for years because of their adorable friendship. However, the two popstars remained just good friends – and were even romantically linked/involved with other people. That is, until the they got together to work on their monster hit collaboration “Senorita” – and their very palpable over-the-top chemistry in their steamy music video spilled over IRL. After multiple sightings of the two sharing PDAs all over, they finally confirmed their relationship in July 2019.
Until recently, they were quarantining together in Camila’s home in Florida – and were even spotted out together on multiple occasions, including attending a Black Lives Matter protest in May.
Shawmila stans, however, aren’t buying into the reports of their split – Twitter was on fire with fans debunking rumors of the pair’s breakup.
Some fans pointed out that Camila recently posted a photo of herself playing the guitar AND wearing a sweater that they believe is Shawn’s. ICYMI, the two previously shared that Camila had been learning the guitar – with Shawn as her teacher.
“CAMILA WEARING SHAWN’S CLOTHES THE COLLAPSE OMG I LOVE THEM SO MUCH,” one fan wrote.
“not yall ACTUALLY believing they broke up when camila literally posted a pic of her wearing shawn’s sweater yesterday 💀,” another tweeted.
Some fans are also convinced that Camila has been posting from L.A. – where Shawn’s home is – the past couple of weeks.
“Except she’s been posting from LA for the last two weeks so your article doesn’t make any sense. Also Camila and Shawn were spotted by fans 3 weeks ago taking a walk together so maybe you should correct your article,” a fan tweeted.
So far, neither Shawn nor Camila have addressed the breakup rumors – however they ARE spending some time apart. But, guys, chill. It totally seems to be just a work thing.
Camila had been filming her upcoming movie, Cinderella, when the coronavirus pandemic hit. Production was put on hold in March – but Deadline recently reported that the movie will be resuming filming soon.
On Wednesday (August 19), Camila confirmed she was back in England – where they’re shooting the movie – for the first time in six months.
“i’m just tryna make friends with baby deer 🤓🤓🤓🤓 back in the UK, finishing Cinderella !!!! i love this movie, so proud to be a part of it already, can’t wait for u to see 🥺,” she captioned a photo of herself in the woods on Instagram.
In the meantime, Shawn has been hitting up a recording studio in Los Angeles – and sparking collaboration speculation with a rumored rival.
