Shawn Mendes is learning a lot about being in a relationship.

Shawn and Camila had fans fanning themselves when they dropped their hit collab “Señorita” and it’s uber steamy music video. Soon enough, the pair confirmed that their onscreen chemistry made its way offscreen – and Shawmila was most definitely for real.

Shawn and Camila even quarantined together at the start of the pandemic. But then, a couple of months ago, reports came out that they “are taking some time apart.”

With Camila in London filming Cinderella and Shawn in Los Angeles, some began to wonder if the breakup rumors were true. Spoiler alert: It’s so not.

Camila appeared to have shut that rumor down once and for all when she showed her support for her beau when he released new music last week.

Sharing a snippet of the teaser video, she wrote, “the world could use some magic, beauty, and Wonder always, but especially right now. @shawnmendes what a gorgeous gift to the world. He’s crafted this album with every last bit of his soul, his spirit, and his essence with the purest of intentions. My love, I’m so proud of the person you are and I’m so excited for people to see and hear your heart. ❤️”

In a recent interview to promote his new music, Shawn opened up about how “Wonder” came to be, which included a very personal journey he had taken – like in his relationship with Camila.

Reflecting on the last six months, Shawn shared with Radio.com, “I think one thing that really kind of happen to me over the last six months is this real moment of reflecting and kind of looking at my own life, but also like being able to look at the world and not be so caught up in my career, my job, and my life, but able to kind of look around see things a lot clearer for the first time.”

“Learning that when it comes to matters of the heart you don’t really have to be a professor of it. You just have to know morally inside what is right and what is wrong, what is good and what is bad…” he added.

“I feel like ‘Wonder’ is in a lot of ways me just reflecting on my life, and life in general,” he continued. “I’ve never really done that before… probably because I didn’t have the mental capacity and clarity to even be able to reflect, and also probably because I was really scared of what people would think if I started to reflect in my music.”

Apparently, his view on emotions actually affected his relationship with Camila.

“I thought that I was a pretty open, emotional, guy until I started being in a relationship with someone that I really, truly love and, realizing that ‘oh no, I really have this big ego, and I don’t want to show her that I’m hurting and I don’t want to show her that that offended me, and like I want to be the man, and I want to be strong in this relationship.’ It actually was hurting our relationship,” Shawn said.

“To get to a point where I’m like, oh, the real strength does lie inside of being emotional, and being vulnerable was really hard for me,” he added. “I wrote songs like ‘In My Blood,’ and I thought I was vulnerable and emotional until I realized that I wasn’t, and I still probably am not comparatively to what we can be. It’s been a lot.”
