Shawn Mendes is spilling the tea on what he really thinks about Joe Alwyn.

The “Stitches” singer recently sat down with Vanity Fair for an interview with a twist – he’s hooked up to a lie detector test while answering questions.

And when the questions came around to longtime friend Taylor Swift, whom he opened for back in 2015, he revealed that they’ve continued to keep in touch, saying “I always am asking her for advice on music.”

Does he approve of TSwift’s beau Joe?

“I’ve never personally met Joe, but he looks like a sweet guy,” he responded at first – which got him called out for “not telling the truth” and “being deceptive”!

“I’m lying a little bit?” Shawn said.

So, what does he really think?

“Yeah, I mean, he’s kind of got a little bit of a villain look about him. He looks like a nice guy but, like, he at any movement could turn into a villain, you know?” he later admitted, adding, “He’s got really blue eyes and I struggle with eyes that blue, you know? Like I find it easier to trust brown eyes.”

After a pause, he started shaking his head, saying, “I just talked way too much about him.”

While Shawn doesn’t seem to be a fan of Joe’s baby blues, Taylor might beg to differ. In her song “Gorgeous,” which is widely theorized to be about Joe, she wrote the lyrics, “Ocean blue eyes looking in mine / I feel like I might sink and drown and die.”

In case you missed it, Shawn and girlfriend Camila Cabello are fresh off making their Met Gala debut as a couple – during which they ran into the Biebers just minutes before they headed out for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Fans will recall that Shawn previously attended the Met Gala with Justin’s wife Hailey in 2018 – just months before she officially became Mrs. Bieber. And during the interview, Shawn was asked if he and Justin ever talked about that particular moment during their first meeting.

“When we met?” Shawn clarified, before replying with a smile. “No, never talked about that.”

According to the lie detector operator, he was telling the truth.

As for how their first meeting went down, Shawn revealed that he was “definitely” nervous about meeting JB. Shawn has previously revealed that it was Justin who inspired him to start singing – the two finally collaborated last year on the track “Monster.”

“I think that when I get nervous my face twitches, but apparently it doesn’t, but I’m pretty sure I had some face twitching going on,” Shawn recalled, confessing, “Definitely [said] some weird stuff about how much I love his song ‘Smile.'”
