Anthony Hopkins has spent decades captivating audiences as one of cinema’s greatest actors. Now, at 88 years old, he’s stepping into another creative spotlight—this time as a composer.

The two-time Academy Award winner has officially signed a recording contract with Decca Classics, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter that celebrates a lifelong passion many fans may not even know he has quietly pursued.

Although Hopkins is internationally recognized for unforgettable performances in films such as The Silence of the Lambs, The Father and The Remains of the Day, music has remained a constant companion throughout his life.

“Music was my first desire, my first wish,” Hopkins said in a statement announcing the partnership. “I’ve been composing music all my life. Some of these pieces have lived with me for decades and I still find myself returning to them.”

His first release under the prestigious classical label is “Bracken Road,” an orchestral composition drawn from Hopkins’ 1947: Suite for Solo Piano and Orchestra.

According to a press release, the piece was inspired by Hopkins’ childhood in Margam, South Wales, serving as “a nostalgic musical portrait of the streets, meadows, farmland and mountains that surrounded his family home in the 1940s.”

The composition offers listeners a deeply personal look into the actor’s early years, transforming memories of home into sweeping orchestral music.

For Hopkins, the project represents far more than simply releasing an album.

It’s the realization of a dream that has quietly accompanied him throughout his remarkable career.

“My whole life is a dream. Signing with Decca is the honour of a lifetime,” Hopkins shared.

“It has been a true privilege to collaborate with the distinguished Philharmonia Orchestra and the virtuoso soloists, cellist Gregorio Nieto and classical pianist Sergio Tiempo. My deepest gratitude and respect go to Maestro Gustavo Dudamel, whose artistry is an integral part of this musical journey. With the graceful precision of his baton, he transformed each note with profound and indelible meaning, creating a pictorial landscape that invites the listener to feel and imagine something uniquely personal.”

The recordings feature performances by the internationally acclaimed Philharmonia Orchestra, with celebrated conductor Gustavo Dudamel leading the sessions.

Joining the orchestra are acclaimed musicians Gregorio Nieto on cello and Sergio Tiempo on piano, helping bring Hopkins’ long-held compositions to life.

The collaboration represents an extraordinary meeting of artists from different generations and disciplines.

While Hopkins has occasionally shared snippets of his music over the years—including viral moments at the piano—this marks the first time many of his orchestral works will receive a major commercial release.

His debut album, Life Is a Dream, is scheduled to arrive on August 21.
