After seven years away from the road, Ariana Grande has officially returned to the concert stage.

The Grammy-winning superstar launched her highly anticipated Eternal Sunshine Tour on June 6 at Oakland Arena in California, marking her first full-scale concert tour since 2019’s Sweetener World Tour. For fans who have spent years waiting for Grande’s return to live performance, opening night delivered a carefully crafted celebration of her musical evolution.

The kickoff show arrives during one of the busiest and most successful chapters of Grande’s career. Since completing the Sweetener World Tour, the singer has balanced chart-topping music releases with an increasingly prominent acting career. She starred in the blockbuster adaptation of Wicked, returned for its sequel, and recently wrapped work on the upcoming Meet the Parents continuation, Focker-In-Law.

Musically, Grande has remained equally active. She released both Positions and Eternal Sunshine during her hiatus from touring, while anticipation continues to build for her upcoming album, Petal, which is scheduled to arrive on July 31.

Because of that growing catalog, fans spent months speculating about what songs would make the final set list. Opening night finally provided the answer.

Rather than organizing the concert chronologically, Grande structured the show into themed segments that blended songs from different eras of her career. The result was a performance that felt both nostalgic and forward-looking, highlighting fan favorites while introducing a glimpse of what’s next.

One of the night’s biggest moments came when Grande delivered the first-ever live performance of her new single, “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” the lead release from Petal. The song served as the evening’s major surprise and quickly became one of the most talked-about moments among concertgoers.

Notably absent from the set list was material from 2018’s Sweetener, making it the only studio album in Grande’s catalog not represented during opening night.

Behind the scenes, the production was developed alongside longtime creative collaborator Christian Breslauer, who directed the tour.

Reflecting on the process, Breslauer wrote:

“The last 8 months have been a dream! One of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life has been creating this show with the help of so many brilliant people. @arianagrande and I have put so much love into every single detail. Excited to say tonight it will finally be yours! I hope you receive it with as much love as we put into making it!”

Grande reshared the message and offered a heartfelt note of her own:

“to say it’s been an honor & the most creatively fulfilling time or project we’ve shared yet would be an understatement … i adore, respect and appreciate you so much. we have put our all into this one and i’m so grateful we get to share it with you all tonight at last … happy opening & thank you to you, my brilliant and kind friend and to our incredible eternal sunshine tour family”

The opening-night set list showcased nearly every phase of Grande’s career, including fan favorites such as “Into You,” “Dangerous Woman,” “7 Rings,” “Thank U, Next,” “One Last Time,” “Break Free,” and “Positions.” Songs from Eternal Sunshine naturally played a central role, while newer tracks like “Twilight Zone,” “Past Life,” and “Supernatural” further highlighted her latest musical direction.

The tour now heads across North America and Europe with multiple-night stops in cities including Los Angeles, Inglewood, Austin, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Boston, Montreal, Chicago, and London. Most dates sold out almost immediately, underscoring the extraordinary demand for Grande’s return.

Seven years is a long time between tours, but opening night made one thing clear: Ariana Grande hasn’t lost a step. If anything, the Eternal Sunshine Tour feels like the arrival of an artist entering a new era—one that combines the confidence of a seasoned performer with the excitement of someone still eager to push herself creatively.

For fans lucky enough to secure tickets, this summer’s hottest pop tour is officially underway.
