Aubrey Plaza is speaking about her pregnancy for the first time—and doing it in a way that feels entirely her.

The 41-year-old actor confirmed that she is expecting her first child during an appearance on the Smartless podcast, offering a candid and slightly offbeat update that quickly made headlines.

“Well, there’s a baby inside of me,” Aubrey said. “No, I said there is a baby inside of me right now.”

The confirmation follows reports that Plaza and actor Christopher Abbott are expecting, though neither had publicly addressed the news until now. True to form, Plaza didn’t deliver the announcement in a polished or overly sentimental way. Instead, she leaned into her signature humor, describing a recent day that felt unexpectedly parallel.

“Today was a big day. I went to the doctor’s today, and my dog also went to the doctor’s. And both of us, my dog’s getting a scan right now. I got a scan earlier. I’m not kidding,” she continued.

“She had to get an ultrasound on her stomach. And then I got an ultrasound on my stomach, and there is a baby in there,” she said.

The moment landed somewhere between surreal and sincere—very much in line with Plaza’s public persona, which has always balanced dry humor with emotional honesty.

When asked directly about how she feels stepping into this next chapter, Plaza didn’t overcomplicate it.

“I am. Yeah. I’ve always wanted, I’ve always wanted, I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about, you know?”

“It just seems so interesting, that whole thing,” she said.

The timing of the news adds another layer of context. Plaza’s pregnancy comes more than a year after the death of her husband, writer and director Jeff Baena. While she has spoken sparingly about the loss, her comments now suggest a shift—one that reflects both resilience and a willingness to move forward.

Professionally, Plaza continues to stay active, most recently appearing in Agatha All Along and maintaining a steady presence across film and television. But this announcement marks a more personal milestone—one that she’s approaching with curiosity rather than expectation.
