Eva Green is on the mend after sustaining an injury while filming the third season of Netflix’s hit series Wednesday.
Reports surfaced earlier this week claiming the actress had been taken to hospital during production, and Entertainment Weekly has since confirmed that Green was injured on set and is now “recovering well.” While neither the production nor the actress’s representatives have shared details about the incident itself, filming was reportedly disrupted as the cast and crew adjusted the shooting schedule to accommodate her recovery.
Representatives for Green did not immediately respond to requests for additional comment. Netflix also declined to provide further information beyond confirming that the actress had suffered “a sustained injury.”
According to The Sun, the incident occurred earlier this month while Wednesday was filming near Dublin, Ireland. Production was temporarily paused as medical personnel responded and Green received treatment before being transported to hospital.
A production source described the situation as a precautionary response to what appeared to be a painful accident.
“This was really nasty,” the source told the outlet. “Eva sustained an injury and was clearly in pain and producers were taking no chances. Medics were called and Eva went to hospital. She underwent treatment and is now recovering well.”
Although details surrounding the injury remain private, the update has reassured fans that Green is recovering and expected to return once she is fully able to resume filming.
The accident comes shortly after Green officially joined the Wednesday universe in one of the show’s most highly anticipated new roles.
The actress has been cast as Ophelia Frump, Morticia Addams’ sister and the aunt of Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams. Morticia is once again played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, making Green’s arrival a major addition to the ever-growing Addams Family.
Her casting also put months of online speculation to rest.
Following Lady Gaga’s memorable guest appearance as Rosalyn Rottwood, many fans believed the Grammy-winning superstar might eventually take on the role of Ophelia herself. Instead, Netflix surprised viewers by announcing Green, whose long history of portraying mysterious and gothic characters made her an instantly popular choice among fans.
When her casting was first announced, Green spoke enthusiastically about joining one of television’s most beloved spooky families.
“I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday as Aunt Ophelia,” Green said when her casting was announced. “This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family.”
Series creators, showrunners, and writers Al Gough and Miles Millar were equally excited about welcoming the actress to the cast.
“Eva Green has always brought an exhilarating, singular presence to the screen – elegant, haunting, and beautifully unpredictable. Those qualities make her the perfect choice for Aunt Ophelia. We’re excited to see how she transforms the role and expands Wednesday’s world.”
Season 3 of Wednesday is shaping up to be the show’s biggest installment yet, with an impressive list of newcomers joining Ortega and the returning cast. Alongside Green, audiences can expect appearances from Lena Headey, Andrew McCarthy, James Lance, Winona Ryder, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, and Kennedy Moyer.
Following the massive global success of the first two seasons, anticipation for the next chapter remains incredibly high.
For now, the focus remains on Green’s recovery. While production continues with an adjusted schedule, fans can take comfort in knowing the actress is recovering well and is expected to return to the delightfully creepy world of Nevermore Academy once she’s ready.
