Jessica Simpson is setting the record straight after comments made by former husband Nick Lachey sparked a wave of online conversation.

The singer, entrepreneur, and television personality recently responded to questions surrounding a story shared by Lachey that quickly gained traction across social media and entertainment headlines.

The discussion began after Lachey appeared on Watch What Happens Live! last week and recalled unexpectedly crossing paths with Simpson during a recent flight to Hawaii.

During the appearance, the former 98 Degrees singer described seeing his ex-wife on board and noted an observation that quickly became a talking point online.

According to Lachey, Simpson appeared to be seated separately from her children during the flight, prompting speculation about seating arrangements and family travel dynamics.

The story quickly gained momentum online, with some interpreting the comments as suggesting that Simpson was seated in first class while her children were seated elsewhere.

However, Simpson has now offered additional context.

While speaking with Page Six, the singer explained why the seating arrangement happened and clarified that the travel plans were not organized by her.

“My mom bought those tickets,” Jessica shared of the reason why her kids were in a different class.

She further explained the circumstances surrounding the trip.

“It was my mom’s treat for us to go to Hawaii.”

Simpson was also asked whether the arrangement would have looked different had she personally handled the travel plans herself.

Her response was immediate.

“Of course.”

The singer shares three children with former NFL player Eric Johnson: son Ace, 12, and daughters Maxwell, 14, and Birdie, 7.

Simpson and Johnson married in 2014 and later announced their separation in January 2025.

The former couple had spent more than a decade together, building a family life that Simpson occasionally shared through interviews and social media moments over the years.

Meanwhile, Simpson and Lachey remain one of pop culture’s most memorable former celebrity couples, largely due to the impact of their early-2000s reality series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.

The series became a major television phenomenon and offered audiences an inside look at their marriage, helping define an era of celebrity reality programming.

Even years after their relationship ended, occasional interactions or stories involving the former couple continue attracting public attention.
