Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson have ended their relationship, with the Grammy-winning rapper publicly addressing the breakup and the reasons behind it.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE on April 25, Megan confirmed that she made the decision to walk away from the relationship after several months of dating.

“I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay,” Megan said in a statement. “Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward. I’m taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.”

The statement followed a series of posts Megan shared earlier that day on her Instagram Stories, where she appeared to reference issues within the relationship, including alleged infidelity.

“Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house… got ‘cold feet,’ ” she wrote in her post over a black background.

“Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season, now you don’t know if you can be ‘monogamous????’ ” she continued. “B*tch I need a REAL break after this one .. bye yall.”

While Thompson was not named directly in the post, the timing and context aligned with their previously public relationship.

The pair had taken their romance public months prior, making appearances together and sharing moments across social media. In late March, Megan posted a mirror selfie featuring the Dallas Mavericks player holding her waist, signaling a level of comfort and visibility in the relationship.

Earlier in the year, Thompson marked Megan’s birthday with a high-profile gesture, gifting her a powder-blue Bentley. The two also traveled together for a tropical getaway, which Megan documented online.

“Aw man I was not ready for this birthday trip to be over 🥹. A time was definitely had🏝️🍹🥳 THANK YOU BABY⚓️,” she wrote at the time.

In January, Megan spoke openly about the relationship, describing it as something that developed unexpectedly.

“Well, I don’t never want to tell [anybody] to just jump in a relationship just because everybody else got one, and I’m not going to tell you to just jump in a relationship because you have to,” the “HISS” rapper said. “I didn’t even know I was going to be in my relationship, to be honest.”

She added that the dynamic had felt different from her past experiences.

“This is one of the first times that I’ve ever been just overly comfortable.”

With a laugh, she added: “I’m comfy, babe!”

The relationship had been relatively new in the public eye but quickly became part of Megan’s broader narrative, which has often blended her personal life with her public persona.

Prior to dating Thompson, Megan had been linked to Chicago Bulls player Torrey Craig, as well as Belgian soccer player Romelu Lukaku and rapper Pardison “Pardi” Fontaine.

Despite the breakup, Megan remained in the spotlight over the weekend for her performance as Zidler in Moulin Rouge! The Musical on Broadway. During the curtain call, she was seen visibly emotional as the audience cheered.

“We love you!” one audience member shouted repeatedly in a video shared online, as Megan wiped away tears before smiling and taking a bow.

The moment underscored a transitional period for the artist—personally and professionally—as she continues to navigate both public scrutiny and career milestones.
