Miley Cyrus has released “Secrets,” a touching new track added as a deluxe cut to her Something Beautiful album, and she says it’s dedicated to her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.

The Grammy winner co-wrote the song with Fleetwood Mac legends Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood. On Instagram, Miley explained, “This song was written as a peace offering for someone I had lost for a time but always loved. In my experience, forgiveness and freedom are one and the same.”

Miley and her dad experienced a years-long estrangement but have recently reconciled. Speaking on the Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky podcast, she shared, “I wrote this song about my dad, because I wanted him to tell me, even though they were secrets, even though I didn’t really wanna know, I wanted to be the one he felt safe enough to tell me the things that were damning and damaging to the family. But I wanted him to think that, as a middle child, I’m old enough that I could take some of that you know. And I always wanted my family to feel like I was the safe place, that I always had the white flag when they came to talk to me.”

“Secrets” opens with the tender lines: “Secrets, I wanna keep your secrets / Like sunlight in the shadows / Like footsteps in the grass / I won’t ever break my promise / Like a songbird in the silence / Like stones against the glass.”

She continues in the chorus, “Hero / Can I be your hero? / Call off all your forces / A white flag in the war.”

With its intimate lyrics and luminous melody, “Secrets” captures the vulnerability of family ties and the healing power of forgiveness. Fans are already embracing the track as a standout moment in Miley’s ongoing evolution as both songwriter and storyteller.

[Verse 1]
Secrets, I wanna keep your secrets
Like sunlight in the shadows
Like footsteps in the grass
I won’t ever break my promise
Like a songbird in the silence
Like stones against the glass

[Pre-Chorus]
We’re chained to the rhythm

[Chorus]
Hero
Can I be your hero?
Call off all your forces
A white flag in the war

[Post-Chorus]
Oh, I wanna be the one (I wanna be the one)
I wanna be the one (I wanna be the one)
Anywhere you run (Anywhere you run)
You know I’ll follow, whoa
Anywhere you go (Anywhere you go, you know I’ll follow)

[Verse 2]
Love is not a prison
I’m not a guard, no
So even when I’m holding you
I won’t lock you up
You can come and go as you want
Would you like to be lonely?
Your word is all I want (Want)

[Chorus]
Hero (Anywhere you go)
Can I be your hero? (Anywhere you go)
Call off all your forces (Anywhere you go)
A white flag in the war (Anywhere you go, you know I’ll follow)

[Post-Chorus]
Oh, I wanna be the one (I wanna be the one)
I wanna be the one (I wanna be the one)
Anywhere you run (Anywhere you run)
You know I’ll follow, whoa (Anywhere you go)
Anywhere you go (Anywhere you go, you know I’ll follow)
Oh, I wanna be the one (I wanna be the one)
I wanna be the one (I wanna be the one)
Anywhere you run (Anywhere you run)
You know I’ll follow, whoa (Anywhere you go)
Anywhere you go (Anywhere you go, you know I’ll follow)
You know I’ll follow

[Outro]
Anywhere you go, you know I’ll follow
I’ll follow anywhere you go
I’ll follow anywhere you go
I’ll follow anywhere you go
I’ll follow
